THE TRUE COST OF FAST FASHION 

After knowing about Fast Fashion, it's causes, effects and impact on the environment in my earlier blogs , 

Now let's throw some more light on this aspect and understand what's the True Cost of Fashion..

The above documentary makes us realize how we are rushing towards fast fashion and destroying our environment by buying more, wearing less and discarding them into the landfills.

Out of 80 billion items manufactured every year, most of the products are just ended up into the landfills. The speed at which garments are produced results into consumers discarding them more and more which thus creates a huge amount of textile waste.

There are some brands that work on to solve such problems. 

One of them is SAVANNA RAGS

SAVANNA RAGS is a clothes recycling and processing plant in Nottingham, England. It works with councils, charities and businesses across the UK to collect clothing, shoes and textiles which are processed in the mills.

The plant works as a recycling initiative which has saved 24,000 tonnes of textiles from landfill every year. It aims to send no fabrics and clothing into the landfill but ony 25 

% of discarded clothes reach them. In Britain more than 3,00,000 tonnes of clothes end up into the landfills. 

RENT THE RUNWAY store works on  a very good cause with an idea to tackle the increasing throwaway culture. It allows the customers to rent clothes for 4 or 8 days instead of buying them. 

According to me, this is a good solution especially in today's era where people wants to have new stuff everyday and variety in their wardrobes. 

Instead of discarding away the clothes which would have been worn only for 3- 4 times, can be shared with people and can rent new stuffs. It's a nice approach towards recycling.

Another such brand which works on sustainable practise is PATAGONIA whose philosophy is to buy once, buy well and mend clothing for a longer lifespan. It helps the customers to keep the products for a longer time . 

I hope this has made us realize that how Irresponsible are we the people towards the environment. We just look towards ourselves, wear good to be trendy , buy more and more. 

But after watching this video, it would definitely made us awake and think on these aspects in a different way. Let's keep our environment and it's beauty and care before ourselves.
